Gay Easter bonnets show creativity

Men wearing outrageously creative Easter bonnets were among the worshipers at Metropolitan Community Church of Los Angeles on Easter Sunday morning.

An annual Easter bonnet contest is hosted by the church, which ministers primarily in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community. Rev. Neil Thomas, pastor, told the congregation that the extravagant bonnets honored queer cultural creativity and God’s own sense of fun. Judges chose bonnets that were “creative, outrageous and fabulous.”

Rev. Thomas wore a bonnet adorned with British flags, a tribute to his native country. He models his bonnet and greets the viewers at Jesus In Love in the video above. Don’t miss his parting line on the video: “God save the queen!”

(I had trouble uploading the video. If you can't view it above, click here to see it.)

Each bonnet was a work of art in itself, so I made videos of all the best bonnets at the early service that I attended. Another bonnet video is posted below.
